(5/8) PICTURE PERFECT (EP LAUNCH) + BUSY KINGDOM + DOLE CHQ

    8:00 PM

It’s called “Paint it Whack” – the new EP from Sydney Rock trio Picture Perfect. Recorded mostly live at Sydney’s Parliament Studios, the EP brings a new direction and energy to the trio’s sound. The songs are propelled by groove-orientated riffs and slinky guitar licks (evident on the singles “One Desire” and “She’s a Sensation”), a contrast to the band’s earlier, more straight-forward rock tracks. Since forming in the family home of brothers Gavin Bowles (vocals/guitar) and Simon Bowles (drums) with bassist Cameron Hill, Picture Perfect has been working tirelessly writing, recording and performing across Australia over the past few years. The band is set to tour the country this August and bring their new tracks to the stage, a place where they feel the most at home. With a live show described by TheMusic.com.au as “pure energy” – the “Paint it Whack” tour is one not to be missed!

(6/8) TEN GALLON HEAD (SINGLE LAUNCH)

    3:00 PM

Ten Gallon Head have been plying their brand rock ‘n’ roll in Melbourne for a few years now and August 6 sees them release a new single (CD and digital) – their first release since their full-length album from late 2014! The A-side, entitled 'Alexander Graham Bell', is an ode to telecommunication-frustration and a slight sonic departure for the band: it's a cracking short blast of power-pop, kitchen-sink bubblegum, likely inspired by their love of Nick Lowe, Rockpile and their ilk. The B-sides show off the band's versatility and inability (despite their best efforts!) to be tied to one genre. There's a reflective country inflected shuffle of a tune called ‘Slip Away’; and a surging cover of a neo-psychedelic oz-rock classic – The Church’s ‘Columbus’. Come hear them wrestle with all this and more in what promises to be a cracking winter afternoon’s display of music.
