Ten Gallon Head have been plying their brand rock ‘n’ roll in Melbourne for a few years now and August 6 sees them release a new single (CD and digital) – their first release since their full-length album from late 2014!
The A-side, entitled ‘Alexander Graham Bell’, is an ode to telecommunication-frustration and a slight sonic departure for the band: it’s a cracking short blast of power-pop, kitchen-sink bubblegum, likely inspired by their love of Nick Lowe, Rockpile and their ilk.
The B-sides show off the band’s versatility and inability (despite their best efforts!) to be tied to one genre. There’s a reflective country inflected shuffle of a tune called ‘Slip Away’; and a surging cover of a neo-psychedelic oz-rock classic – The Church’s ‘Columbus’.
Come hear them wrestle with all this and more in what promises to be a cracking winter afternoon’s display of music.
