Slip, slop, slap - on February 24th, local singer-songwriter Mia Pisano celebrates her debut single “Sunshine Coast” at The Retreat Hotel. Mia is splashing onto the scene with a scathingly witty country waltz, alongside hyperlocal folk artist Possum, and Queensland native Rhiana Jay as support. Dress code: sun smart.

Hailing from Naarm (Melbourne, Australia), Mia Pisano’s modern take on folk and Americana is eclectic and unapologetic. Her original music melds the sounds of Laura Marling and Madison Cunningham with a sprinkle of Loretta Lynn’s rebellious wit. A classic storyteller with a bleeding heart, her songs are earnest, eloquent, and meticulously crafted. With each lyric, Mia weaves a vivid web of unfiltered feeling, brought to life with tender twang, upright bass, and fiddle. Mia has been recognised as one of The Push’s “25 under 25" in 2023 for her dedication to the craft of songwriting, alongside praise from Tania Doko, Kate Miller-Heidke, and Katie Wighton.

About the supports:
Rhiana Jay is an alt-folk singer/songwriter and writer from Brisbane (Meanjin). Rhiana is known for her brutally honest lyrics, her stripped-back performance style, and her affinity for cheesy 90s instruments. Rhiana is currently working on her debut EP ‘This But Better’.

A modern take on Australian songs and bush ballads from the folk revival of the 60s, Possum's music crafts humour and vulnerability to regale audiences with modern drinking songs and tales of nights out traversing country pubs and strip clubs. Her unique brand of hyperlocal folk captures a snapshot of Australia that threads cultural narratives through time and place; from the historical to a surreal present. Definitely best listened to with a pint.

The Retreat Hotel would like to acknowledge the Wurundjeri People of the Kulin Nation, the traditional custodians of the land on which The Retreat now stands, and pay our respects to all elders past, present and emerging. We acknowledge that sovereignty has never been ceded and that our venue operates on stolen land.
