Alyce Platt w/ Special Guests

Alyce Platt w/ Special Guests

I have a new project I’m very excited about it’s called Bakers Daughter and I’m currently working on an album.

I’m going to be doing shows in Hobart as part of Festival of Voices in the middle of the year and I’m doing some local shows in the lead up.

Joining me will be Clare Moore on vibes, Stephen Hadley on bass, and Pete Farnan on guitar.

I look forward to road testing the new songs and sharing them with you up close and personal in the front bar of The Retreat.

A couple of years back, I had a really successful Tuesday residency in the front bar at the Retreat Hotel. Steve Kilby came to one of the shows and wrote-

“First of all - what a band..Alyces songs are special and she delivers em in a very compelling manner often staring out at the audience with the gaze of a dazzled innocent.

The words and the singing all added up to a rather enchanted evening… I was thoroughly bewitched by the wonderful music and the door it opened into a very cool and groovy world”

Bakers Daughter (aka Alyce Platt) brings to life, tales from her deep dark past drawing on her extensive life experiences and some of these might even be true!

Her indie-pop music is a pastiche of original and nostalgic sounds wrapped around lyrics of love, loss, friends and strangers.

Stumbling through obstacles of self-doubt and paranoia she is not afraid to confront the darker side of life. Her songs have a depth and melancholy that can suddenly turn around and become oblique, uplifting tunes with haunting melodies and dreamy soundscapes.

Catapulted from the suburban jungle of the 80s into a ubiquitous television career, Bakers Daughter highlights stories and observations from growing up in the suburbs to living in St. Kilda with super hero’s, cowboys in the attic and the KGB.

Zac Eden w/ Rachel Clark + Joe Forrester

On a winter afternoon the Retreat Hotel is hosting 3 beautifully contrasting songwriters.
It's all happening between 3-6 pm.
If you have spent all your savings the night before don't fret, because it's FREE.

Joe Forrester - Forrester has released six ep's, one extended ep and one studio album (self-titled, available on all popular streaming services), has performed with the likes of Courtney Barnett, Vance Joy and Marlon Williams, received glowing reviews and national airplay. Forrester's musical allies lean closer towards the odd, such as Neutral Milk Hotel, Joanna Newsom, Ani Difranco, Bill Callahan (Smog), CocoRosie and Bonnie 'Prince' Billy.
https://www.facebook.com/joeforrestermusic/

Rachel Clark - A self-taught Singer-Songwriter, Rachel Clark delivers a heart-felt and intimate combination of music and story-telling; With a vibe of soulful acoustic folk and in a bare-all honesty, telling stories of loss, love and the battles fought within ourselves.
www.facebook.com/RachelClarkMusic/

Zac Eden - Born in a suburban Adelaide bedroom to a family of vegetarian activists. His unusual upbringing influenced his song writing themes, but he has been regularly compared to the quasi-storytelling qualities of Johnny Cash, Chris Isaak and Jeff Buckley. Since his late 2017 EP release “Chasing the wind”, Eden has hushed a few-hundred strong crowd at The Governor Hindmarsh, supported award winning American artist Sonia and toured the eastern states for 3 months. Late 2018 to present has
seen him land a residency contract at the Uluru resort in Yulara NT and a permanent move to Melbourne. In 2019 Eden sharpens his songwriting, a national tour and an album release for early
2020.

Zac E Tea Mini Residency w/ Sunfruits (Duo) + Special Guests

Zac E Tea is bringing his acoustic aroma and limber legs to the Retreat for two Tuesdays in row, some call it downright crazy, some call it a ‘miniature residency’.

‘Unmissable, undeniable and uncertainly certified’ are three buzzwords the press have been saying about Tea’s new solo endeavour. Tea uses poetry disguised as comedy whilst singing about life's simplicities masked as surrealism. Tea also provides slick chordal rhythms that swing and bop around, an interesting mix of folk and bossa nova.

Grand Baxter w/ Riley Catherall + Miller

Three singer-songwriters of diverse sounds and backgrounds join together on 27th May for a special Monday night in the front bar of The Retreat. Grand Baxter, Riley Catherall and Miller each sit somewhere in the world of folk and alt-country, singing story-filled songs that explore their distinct worlds.

Free entry!
Music 8pm to 11pm

-- Grand Baxter --

The Grand Baxter story began in mid-2017 as a welcome distraction from other projects for singer-songwriter Ben Langdon. He was quickly joined by Dylan Knur (Parkville) on violin. Their songs dance between the lyrically intense and the playfully pretty, watermarked with a musicality and intent driven by their individual jazz, rock and country influences. Inspired by artists such as James Taylor, David Ramirez and Dawes, Grand Baxter are best described as 'a bold hamper of charisma, musicality and Americana charm.'

-- Riley Catherall --

Riley Catherall is an Americana influenced singer songwriter who manages to deliver a partnership of arresting lyricism and traditional and modern folk and country sounds, illustrated on his latest EP "Venture In Vain" and at his captivating live shows.

-- Miller --

Intimate, original and gritty. Miller is a solo acoustic act hailing from the eastern suburbs of Melbourne. A comedic and charming performer with a flair for storytelling, Miller writes emotionally honest lyrics with poetic simplicity. Growing up listening to a combination of funk, R&B and 70s American folk, Miller’s style is what might happen if the spirit of Michael Jackson produced a Damien Rice record.
