Dark, twisted, witty, funny and, at times, strangely romantic elements, are joyfully rolled up into one energetic and theatrical Melbourne based, French inspired band – Cyclo Timik! Fronted by the charismatic, and at times, enigmatic, Monsieur Guilbert, the group fuse together an infectious mix of “French musette”, Gypsy music and punk rock, with dark and powerful stories of love, loss and the strange nuances that encapsulate everything from fetish to a broken heart. Influenced by the likes of Negresses Vertes and Gogol Bordello, Cyclo Timik is Edith Piaf meets Mike Patton!

Christopher Marshall Presentation w/ Kim Volkman + The Spoils

As lead singer of legendary Melbourne Blues Punk firebrands, Harem Scarem, Christopher Marshall blew out the speakers on many a Melbourne stage. For those of you who missed them first time around, Harem Scarem were a much loved fixture of Melbourne’s thriving live scene back then. Renowned for their ferociously intense gigs, they were described variously as “Cold Chisel with a punk-rocking heart” or as “the Stones meet Creedence covering the Cramps” (or some such nonsense). With an intensely loyal following and upward trajectory of critical and popular acclaim they nonetheless disbanded way too soon in 1987 following the release of their landmark LP, Pilgrims Progress – re-released to renewed critical ravings in expanded format by AZTEC in 2008. Christopher Marshall then retreated into monastic seclusion before dragging himself out of the swamp temporarily in order to reinvent himself as a Scott Walkeresque soul rocking crooner for 1998’s well received Strange Waters, Small Mercies (Hi Gloss CD). A brace of shows backed by an all-star band (featuring members of Hunters & Collectors; Stephen Cummings, the Models etc.) recaptured the glory days but proved to be a flash in the pan as the singer retreated all too soon into the welcoming mangroves of obscurity.

Who would have guessed that in the midst of all this, Christopher Marshall was itching to reboot his fabled singing career.

Moon Cup + Ruby Jones + Madeline Leman

~ ~ ~ Triple Headline at The Retreat ~ ~ ~

MADELINE LEMAN | RUBY JONES | MOON CUP

What do we want? A triple headline at the Retreat!
When do we want it? NOW! Or on November 22nd!

Three babes are joining forces to bring you a night of foot stompin’, hip swayin’, eye cryin’ good times.

FREE SHOW ♥

MADELINE LEMAN
Madeline Leman and the Desert Swells create a retro Americana surf sound that is sinful
and soulful, heartbreaking and leg shaking. Both hard to define and easy to love, their combination of 60s surf rock, 70s pop and Americana twang will take you on a wild ride that you won’t want to get off. Have you heard her latest single Diva With The Fever For Change?! Do yourself a favour.

RUBY JONES
Ruby Jones’ songwriting evokes images of a desolate American landscape merged with dreamlike narratives of heartbreak and redemption. Before embarking on her solo career she recorded and toured as a background vocalist for Clairy Browne & The Bangin Rackettes. It was in this group she met her songwriting partner lead guitarist, Jules Pascoe (Jazz Party, Husky, Jaala). It’s gonna be swoon city, lovers.

MOON CUP
MOON CUP is the solo project of Rita Khayat (Spiral Perm). It’s a bit post-punk, it’s a bit pop, whatever it lacks in an adequate Facebook event bio, it makes up for in driving bass lines and lyrics that will kick your butt. Do.

THE SPAGHETTI STAINS
POLITE SKELETONS
NIPPLE CHAFFES

The Spaghetti Stains are a three piece, all female band from Gippsland, made up of members Emmah, Pantjiti and Rose. Their alt/indie rock sound takes inspiration from the likes of Dumb Punts, Wolf Alice, and The Grogans, featuring generational subject matter and lyrics from real events, bringing a hyped vibe to the stage.
Having recently won their local FReeZA Push Start Battle of the Bands, these girls are working hard on generating new material, following a high demand of bookings for up and coming gigs, both local and in other regions.

Polite Skeletons are hitting all your favourite venues around Melbourne. A three piece from the north suburbs, drawing inspirations from the white stripes, thee oh sees and even homeshake. A simple sound with a tied up load of energy. Having just started playing together they are fresh from loungerooms, annoying neighbours and brewing some catchy quirky new tunes.

Nipple Chaffes, everyone's favourite 3 piece surf punk band. Playing a heap of gigs at all the classic venues Melbourne has to offer and just having released their single "Op shop mosh", they've proven to always be a wild fun time.
