Musicians In Solidarity with Palestine

MAIN ROOM / FREE ENTRY

The Retreat Hotel would like to acknowledge the Wurundjeri People of the Kulin Nation, the traditional custodians of the land on which The Retreat now stands, and pay our respects to all elders past, present and emerging. We acknowledge that sovereignty has never been ceded and that our venue operates on stolen land.

On Wednesday the13th of December, members of the Melbourne/Naarm music community will come together at The Retreat Hotel for a night of music and solidarity with the people of Palestine.

On 1 December 2023, the Israeli occupation forces re-commenced the bombardment of Gaza without hesitation as soon as the temporary ceasefire concluded - murdering over 1000 Palestinians across the last 6 days.

Inspired by Musicians for Palestine and their 2023 letter we call for an immediate and permanent ceasefire, for humanitarian aid in Gaza, and for an end to the siege of Gaza.

We are in opposition to all forms of racism: including anti-Blackness, anti-semitism, Islamophobia, anti-Arab and anti-Palestinian racism.

We seek to create a healing space for all those deeply affected by the death and destruction taking place in Gaza and the West Bank.

In doing so, we hope to unite the music community together to ignite discussion and inspire more artists to take action and to contribute their voices to the Palestinian cause.

Despite entry to the event being free, with the primary purpose of demonstrating solidarity with the wider Palestinian community, we kindly ask that attendees learn about and donate directly to Melbourne/Naarm based Palestinian arts collective Bukjeh. We also invite attendees who are musicians to read the Musicians for Palestine 2023 letter and urge you to become a signatory.

We thank members of the Naarm/Melbourne Palestinian music community, Loud Jew Collective and Musicians for Palestine for their guidance and consultation around the event. We too understand that this is a deeply traumatising time for the Palestinian community in Naarm and we extend our deepest condolences and aim to cultivate an offline space for healing and solidarity, serving as a reminder that we wholeheartedly support the plight of our Palestinian brothers and sisters.
