Have you ever wondered what it would have been like if Jane Austen had written Pride and Prejudice, where the characters were instruments from a jazz big band? Unfortunately, we did:
"It is a truth universally acknowledged, that a piano in possession of a good groove, must be in want of an appreciative audience. However little known the feelings or views of such an instrument may be on its first introduction into a jazz club, this truth is so well fixed in the minds of the listeners, that it is considered as the rightful essence of the band. A trumpet, of course, must be in want of some agreeable tunes. But little did the audience fathom the intricate dance about to commence, the syncopated rhythm that would entwine the fate of a piano and a saxophone, amid the harmonious and sometimes discordant melodies of a spirited jazz orchestra."
Come down to the Retreat Hotel in Brunswick on Sunday 26th of November at 2:30pm to witness a band in possession of a good groove. We want YOU to be our appreciative audience. Fathom the syncopated rhythms of the Low Down Big Band!
The Retreat Hotel would like to acknowledge the Wurundjeri People of the Kulin Nation, the traditional custodians of the land on which The Retreat now stands, and pay our respects to all elders past, present and emerging. We acknowledge that sovereignty has never been ceded and that our venue operates on stolen land.
