Come to the retreat for an afternoon of folk music with The Complete Book of Chess and Hugo van Buuren.

The Complete Book of Chess is coming to the Retreat to play fresh material ranging from soft rock pirate core to charged flamenco inspired by yet-to-be-proven certified bangers. Drawing from a range of folk styles and infusing them with a contemporary live performance sensibility, TCBOC will bring to life their interpretation of Italo Calvino and foghorn sounds.

Hugo van Buuren’s writing is often likened to the freedom of Leif Vollebekk and the vulnerability of Adrianne Lenker (Big Thief). Raised on folk and blues traditions, his music both nods to these roots and stretches out with a unique queer lens within the alt-folk world. Listen out as he is set to release his debut EP in May this year.
