Royston Vasie released their first two albums through erstwhile collaborator Courtney Barnett’s now defunct label Milk! Records. Their latest album 'Through The Canopies' will be self released May 15, 2024; the band will be touring nationally playing new and old songs. With special guests Baby Blue and Heat Death, joining them for their only Victorian show - the Retreat Hotel.
Previously veering between the garage ethos of Black Lips and the shoegaze ease of early The Brian Jonestown Massacre, their latest effort is more akin to the Australiana synonymous with heavyweights The Go Betweens. At times the lead guitars wanders into the territory of The Stone Roses.
The new album sees the band at their best, crafting songs laced with whip-smart lyrics, delivered by sunny-sombre vocals atop jangly guitars.
The band have graced stages big and small, touring throughout Australia and the U.S. with the likes of Unknown Mortal Orchestra, Courtney Barnett and Spencer P Jones.
The Retreat Hotel would like to acknowledge the Wurundjeri People of the Kulin Nation, the traditional custodians of the land on which The Retreat now stands, and pay our respects to all elders past, present and emerging.
