MAIN ROOM / Door $20

Hjalte Ross is a Danish award winning artist who has a discography consisting of three full length albums, his debut 'Embody' (2018), his grand 'Waves of Haste' (2020) and his latest intimate, self produced and critically acclaimed 'Less' (2023). All albums are based on personal reflections, and his latest album had him declared “the finest export of Denmark” by MOJO, with glowing reviews also from Uncut, Clash Magazine, The Guardian, etc. as well as KEXP and BBC-6 airtime. Born and raised on the countryside by the northern fjords of Denmark, Hjalte has a self taught approach to his playing and songwriting. This has often been described as a combination of precise technical skill with a raw, and often unpredictable essence. Performing live has seen Hjalte in setups from solo, to band, to string ensembles, and everything in between. With a vision to merge the intimate with the intense, Hjalte revives his songs every time played live, letting the present facilitate the outcome.

On October 13th 2023 Hjalte Ross released his new album 'Less' on Wouldn't Waste Records. Hjalte Ross introduces his album; "‘Less’ encompasses songs that were crafted during difficult and challenging times, yet written, nevertheless. It embodies the transformation of chaos into tangible form, dismantling obscurity. ‘Less’ contains not just one specific emotion, but rather a collection of emotions that all fall under the theme of inadequacy."

Hjalte will be touring Melbourne for the first time as an artist this July, however having spent time here in his teenage years, feels as if he is returning to his second home.
