(20/1) ANIMAL ARCADE + JESTERS FOR KINGS + FREAK AND THE FAT CATS + DJ ADALITA

    9:30 PM

‘Animal Arcade’ are four okay-looking guys and one really good-looking guy.  All members of the Melbourne-based rock band are related in one way or another and this makes for a pretty volatile environment - particularly on stage.  The boys have played all over Brunswick and Fitzroy promoting their debut single, ‘New Man’, which was a massive hit (locally).  Vocal harmonies and duelling guitars are on the menu so expect the five-piece to put on a diverse show ranging from power-pop through to old school rock ‘n’ roll.  Follow-up single, ‘Hello’, to be released mid January.  They'll help kick-start your weekend with the help of Jesters For Kings and Freak and the Fat Cats from 9.30pm in the main room.

(25/1) NAPIER + THE LACHLAN BRUCE BAND + ALLOLA

    8:30 PM

Rock and roll has found its soul!  Napier is a raunchy rock and roll band from Melbourne with a brand new EP, 'Sundance Romance'. Napier arose from the lasting friendship of front man Nelson Dore and bass player James Taylor who met in primary school. Playing in various bands for over a decade has led to them to create a distinctive sexy sound with plenty of the Napier sass and swagger! The pair were later joined by keys player Nick Dalton Bocquet. In 2015, Napier brought their charismatic toe tapping energy the State Theatre as a finalist in the prestigious Melbourne Music Bank competition sponsored by the Bank of Melbourne.  Inspired by the words of Keith Richards, Napier is certainly putting the roll back in rock and roll.

    (28/1) WILD TURKEY

    5:00 PM

Formed in 1988, the band sprung out of Sherbrooke Community School, also the venue for Wild Turkey's first official gig (the band was previously called "The Deviates" prior to that so actually started in 1987!).  The line up for that first show as WILD TURKEY on the 20th of August 1988 was John on guitar and vocals, Matt Walker on lead guitar, Matthew Ralph on bass, and Chris Latham on drums.  They also played at "Subterrian" which was a Melbourne club with the same line up amongst other shows.  After having many drummers (including Fred Strauks from Skyhooks, a teacher at Sherbrooke who played a couple of gigs for us), we finally met Kirk in 1990 and at that stage Wild Turkey started performing more regularly in Melbourne Venues.  Come on down for some Rockabillly/Psychobilly goodness, almost 30 years in the making!

(31/1) JOSH FORNER + GRACE KING

    8:30 PM

JOSH FORNER'S self-described version of 'tragedy folk' is a vastly dark and heartfelt space. Originally drawing material from his own experiences, he has recently expanded into writing more with political views and the experiences of others in mind. Whether it be the ringing absoluteness of his acoustic guitar, or the haunting drone of the electric; Forner's words and themes are made to hit you right in the heart. Well known across the open mic circuit for her booming voice, GRACE KING sets to take you somewhere with her individual style of eclectic pop, without you ever needing to leave the room. She epitomises an eclectic love of music working it's way into vocal tweaking and skewed words to form the bare boned skeleton and flesh that is music found homemade and raw.

    (12/2) THE SKELETON CLUB

    8:30 PM

From its inception, Adelaide acoustic 5-piece The Skeleton Club has been the makeshift home for a coming-together of storytellers. Brothers and dual-frontmen Tom and Nick Vasic openly spill brutally cathartic anecdotes, shaped by the highs and lows of their contrasting vocal ranges. Guitarist Toby Brandenburg and bassist Sammy Berry lead the sea of back-up harmonies, alongside guitarist Michael Pejin and together the band deliver a wall of sound that takes influence from genres such as blues, folk, latin, country, gospel and soul. The Skeleton Club's eclectic troubadour-pop could find a comfortable home from Nashville to Cuba and almost anywhere in between. They have already shared the stage with an array of high class acts including Jack Carty, Closure in Moscow, D.D Dumbo, Oliver's Army, Will Pugh(US) and Jonny Craig (US) - and though their history is short their future burns bright.

    (21/2) D.G GRAY AND CO

    8:30 PM

After years of touring Australia, the U.S and Canada with his former band The Good Ship, Daz Gray decided he needed some time off to recharge and spend some time writing the songs he always wanted to write. Looking back through his extensive back catalogue he saw that growing up in public housing estates and impoverished country towns gave him a unique perspective on topics that he wasn’t hearing so much in other songs. A love of country and folk and a steady indoctrination in AM radio 3 minute pop songs have lead to D.G. Gray & Co. The lean 3 piece of drummer Jon May and bassist Michael Downes allow the raw lyrics to hide under sunny melodies and upbeat rhythms. There is nothing as sneakily sinister as dancing the night away to the heart-ache of infidelity, alcoholism and greyhound racing.  Catch D.G. Gray & Co and see if you can resist.
