Oh, and to perform and release their new album; 'The Clones'. What do they sound like? Well the drummer's Aunty thinks they're too loud and should sing more about 'happy things' and the singer's Dad says he can never hear the lyrics. The bass player's Uncle just doesn't 'get it' but the guitarist's Mum thinks they're frickin' great, so there.

    (1/3) DOC HALIBUT RESIDENCY

    8:30 PM

The band’s music sits somewhere between Rhythm and Blues and Country/Rock; where the styles of Ry Cooder may meet The Band or perhaps the Stones and Van Morrison. Doc Halibut themselves have ironically described their sound as “regressive rock”, but however it may be categorized, it’s music and it gets the toes tapping. Based in Melbourne, Doc Halibut regularly perform around town as well as at festivals and venues all around the country, and with a busy year of gigging in store and preparation well under way for an album launch in the later half of the year, there’s much to look forward to.

Bringing influences from the backroads of Texas and the streets of Bakersfield the F100s play stripped-down, guitar-driven, honky-tonk twang.   Americana fans will appreciate the rocking western swing and blues inflected upbeat dance tunes and beer soaked ballads drawn from country’s darker heritage of hard times and heartache. The F100s feature ex-members of the Straight 8's, The Redliners, Supertronics and Bullet and draw influences from vintage troubadour Ernest Tubb, Honky-Tonk heroes Lefty Frizzell and Ray Price as well as Bakersfield mavericks Buck Owens and Merle Haggard.

(18/3) MANTIS AND THE PRAYER + HEDONISTIC PLEASURES

    9:30 PM

Ever since bluesman Robert Johnson struck a deal with the devil there’s been a link between esoterica and rock’n’roll. There was a revival of occultism in rock in the '60s. Take the arcana around the Beatles for instance – rumour had it that Paul McCartney was dead and you could make out John Lennon singing “I buried Paul” if you played Strawberry Fields backwards. The '70s had another crack: Bowie was at peak mysticism in hisStarman days and Led Zepp took to quoting occultist Aleister Crowley. In 2013 Ben Lee took a trip and made a concept album about it (Ayahuasca: Welcome to the Work) and now we’ve got Mantis and the Prayer, a four-piece Melbourne-based band, lifting the veil between our world and whatever the hell else is out there. The Hedonistic Pleasures embrace the five hedonistic pleasures of existence; sex, drugs, spirituality, rock 'n' roll and indulgence in the four aforementioned pleasures. We hail from the gloomy depths of the charcoal filled skies of the Latrobe Valley, but our transformation is almost complete. We're ready to unleash a state of Nirvana and Bohemianism unto the unknowing proletariat unenlightened public, you've been warned....

    (25/3) PEASANT MOON

    5:00 PM

Peasant Moon can be as tender as they can be tense. Their live shows blend folk and Americana with their sound paired back to the essentials – Harvey’s acoustic and Tweedy-like vocals with Josie adding melodica, percussion and gentle harmonies. The rich, heart-filled and sometimes dark songs on their 2015 debut EP 'Fading in the light' speak of lonely nights, unanswered questions and quiet resolve. Drawing on inspiration from acts like the Civil Wars, Lowland Hum, Mandolin Orange, and Ryan Adams, Peasant Moon offers the listener the opportunity to be drawn into their world. Whether in a moonlit backyard setting or an inner city dive bar, Harvey and Josie bear their souls, creating an atmosphere that sets them apart.

Meddling with the minimalist production of glitchy melancholy nightclub beats, loops, samples and layered melodic guitar effects Cholewa creates a full ensemble-like presence, whilst interlacing and intertwining experimental and ethereal elements to create his own ubiquitous school of sound in Outside The Academy.
