    (4/10) FRUIT + OBSCURA HAIL

    8:30 PM

FRUIT makes music with rich vocal harmonies and dynamic live arrangements- exploring lyrical themes of nature, friendship, life and death. Based in Wollongong, the up-to-five-piece band includes a combination of four voices, bass and electric guitars, trumpet, clarinet, flute and sax. In October, FRUIT will put out their first release: a five track EP. Obscura Hail is a solo baroque-folk, basement-pop producer/ performer expressing dark, nostalgic, and paranormal narratives with naïve optimism. Drawing inspiration from the likes of Sibylle Baier, Sufjan Stevens, and Sun Kil Moon, Hail frequently crafts contrasting textures between the lush sounds of his guitar work and the softly sung, at times almost whispered delivery of their lyrics.Their irrational fear of memory loss has resulted in an extensive backlog of official releases and weekly volumes, giving every live performance sincere nostalgia.

    (5/10) DOC HALIBUT

    8:30 PM

Contrary to what the name suggests, Doc Halibut are actually a five piece band (two guitars, hammond, bass and drums), rather than your local practising G.P. The band’s music sits somewhere between Rhythm and Blues and Country/Rock; where the styles of Ry Cooder may meet The Band or perhaps the Stones and Van Morrison. Doc Halibut themselves have ironically described their sound as “regressive rock”, but however it may be categorized, it’s music and it gets the toes tapping.
