    (24/8) HARRY JAKAMARRA

    8:30 PM

What happens when a croc skinner puts down his knife, leaves the Kimberley in his house truck, with his banjo in tow? A chilling collection of songs that have been described as: ‘Gothic Australiana’. Harry Jakamarra forged his song writing, banjo and guitar skills in settings as diverse as the desert sands north of Timbuktu, the choked back streets of Varanasi on the Ganges River, and the uninhabited reaches of the Great Sandy Desert in WA. Powerful poetry, an original voice, raw and intricate banjo and guitar sounds. Harry is soon to release an album produced by Australian music legend Jeff Lang.

    (10/9) STEVE BOYD’S RUM REVERIE

    5:00 PM

He's Back! The long awaited return of one of Melbourne’s favourite sons is set to tear up The Retreat in Brunswick for the first time.  Steve Boyd's Rum Reverie is essentially the brainchild of Paul Fiddes and Steve Boyd. Their influences are primal and instinctive; perhaps not schooled and certainly not slick. The core group of Paul on drums, Steve on guitar and vocals is augmented by upright bass and brass. The sound is heartfelt and raw. With a punk brain, a gospel soul, a blues heart and hints of jazz trickling through its veins, Steve Boyd's Rum Reverie maybe something of a musical Frankenstein. This is a monster, however, that promises to hoot, holler, growl and grind with all its might.
